Women’s safety organisation announces plans for South Cheshire hub

A campaign to make society safer for women and girls has unveiled plans for new South Cheshire headquarters as part of a package of measures to prevent their physical and mental harm.

Alpha Omega Women Peace and Security (WPS) Foundation, which currently holds sessions at Crewe Market Hall, is opening a hub on Crewe Business Park offering emotional and practical support.

A developer has relocated a play area and replaced a proposed community orchard with allotments to address concerns raised about a controversial 188-home scheme planned for Nantwich.

Cheshire East’s planning officers had recommended councillors on the strategic planning board approve the reserved matters application from David Wilson Homes and Muller for phase one development on land at Peter Destapleigh Way at Stapeley at its meeting in January.

Residents on a South Cheshire housing estate are living in unsaleable homes with no planning permission on potentially contaminated land because a developer “appears to have put profit first”, councillors claimed.

Countryside Partnerships was given permission to build the 263-home Coppenhall Place development on the former Bombardier site in 2018 – but because it failed to deal with a condition relating to contaminated land the estate has no planning permission.

Plans to demolish Crewe Library for new history centre get council backing

Plans to bulldoze the old Crewe library and replace it with a purpose-built history centre to house the Cheshire archives have been approved.

The proposals are part of a Cheshire-wide project, ‘Cheshire’s Archives: a story shared’, which is being funded by Cheshire East Council, Cheshire West and Chester Council, and the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Coole Acres Fishery and Leisure Park, off Coole Lane, applied for permission to remodel hatchery ponds to create a new lake and to use land for the siting of 19 holiday lodges and two mobile camping pods.
