Cheshire East councillors have approved a budget for the next financial year which includes mothballing three tips and increasing council tax by 4.99%.
The council voted by 43 to 32 in favour of the budget which brings in a raft of savings measures including emergency tip closures at Bollington, Middlewich and Poynton from April.
Detectives hunting an armed robber who targeted a Crewe convenience store are appealing for witnesses and video footage.
The robbery happened when a man wielding a bat entered the Morrisons Daily store on West Street.
A pigeon rescued after being trapped in the rafters of a bus station has been nursed back to health by RSPCA staff at Stapeley Grange in Nantwich.
The bird was seen trapped by its wing and hanging from the top of Chester Bus Interchange and was rescued by the RSPCA.

Cheshire East Council is on the hunt for another top officer after head of finance Alex Thompson handed in his notice.
Mr Thompson is quitting as director of finance and customer service in May to become executive director for finance and transformation at Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council.
