Wistaston Scouts appeal for more plastic bottle ends

Wistaston Scouts are appealing for more plastic bottle ends for their new 2021 Remembrance Day poppy display.

For the past two years, the Wistaston Scout Group have displayed an impressive 24ft long Remembrance Day poppy cascade outside their Scout Centre in 2019 and Wistaston Memorial Hall in 2020.

A kind-hearted Wistaston resident has donated a chainsaw art sculpture she produced to the village so it can be enjoyed by the community.

Sandie Wilson, 61, handed over the 25-inch tall oak sculpture of an owl which has been placed on a plinth in Joey the Swan recreation ground in Wistaston by the Wistaston Conservation Group.

Anne Garner, a Learning Mentor at Cheshire College – South & West (Crewe Campus), is participating in the charity event in the Peak District on Saturday June 12, if government guidelines allow.

Wistaston residents fear polluting waste from a storm drain at Wistaston Brook is killing wildlife and causing “vile” odours in the area.

The storm drain has been flooding the brook which runs along the popular Joey the Swan recreation ground, where families go for exercise and walking dogs.

The thefts happened in Wistaston where the tree, its retaining post and its lights in the flowerbed were removed and stolen from outside the Memorial Hall off Church Lane.

A Christmas wish has come true for a remarkable Wistaston boy whose brave fight against cancer prompted a massive fundraising drive for his treatment.

Eleven-year-old Georgy Capener was diagnosed with the highly malignant Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer, following a fall in a friend’s garden on Easter Sunday in 2018.

Ed Potts began training for the London Marathon earlier this year and when the event was cancelled due to Covid he ran around South Cheshire instead to raise money for Georgy Capener.
