Burglar jailed after 82-year-old’s terrifying ordeal in Wistaston

A burglar who held a pillow over the face of an 82-year-old woman while she was house-sitting a Wistaston property for a friend has been jailed.

Martin McGinley 30, of Smallbrook Walk, Crewe, was sentenced to 38 months imprisonment after pleading guilty.

Community stalwart Geoff Parsons MBE is to retire as chairman of the board of trustees for The Wingate Special Children’s Trust at the end of the year.

Geoff has been involved with the charity since 1998 when he joined as a trustee, shortly afterward being appointed chairman of the charity.

For the sixth consecutive year Allyn Nightingale has dressed up his bungalow and driveway on Rope Bank Avenue with bells, baubles, hundreds of different coloured lights, lit-up trees and illuminated characters.

Visitors enjoyed the sixth annual ‘Christmas Tree Festival’ at St Mary’s Church on Monks Lane in Acton.

The event was free entry, with donations received towards church funds, and allowed visitors to view 40 beautifully dressed 6ft Christmas trees.
