Reaseheath toy collection brings Christmas cheer to hospital children

Generous staff and students at Reaseheath College in Nantwich have donated 256 presents to bring Christmas cheer to young people spending the festive season in Leighton Hospital.

The collection was organised by the college’s Wellbeing Team and donated through a Christmas toy appeal organised annually by the Dabbers Scooter Club.

Middlewich Road, which has been closed between Pyms Lane and Smithy Lane since May, was due to re-open this month.

Leighton Hospital bosses have applied for permission to build a new two-storey modular ward on its Crewe site.

The Crewe hospital was built in the 1970s using reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete panels (RAAC planks) in the roof which now need replacing on safety grounds.

Latest statistics have placed Mid Cheshire Hospitals Trust in the bottom six in England for hitting A&E waiting time targets, says a report.

It says the trust – which runs Leighton Hospital – only managed to ensure 59.9% of patients in A&E were admitted, transferred or discharged within four hours of arrival in May.

A state-of-the-art “mini C-arm” X-ray machine has been funded by Mid Cheshire Hospitals Charity which enables patients to receive faster treatment and frees up theatre slots for others.

The woman, who asked not to be named, says she is currently using the gridlocked Minshull New Road rat-run to save time and fuel.
